The View From Shake Rag Alley
March is arriving, and maybe you remember that saying “come in as a lion, go out as a lamb”—but with our fluctuating temperatures, abundant sunshine, and snow squalls, I think the month is beginning as some sort of armadillo or pangolin (just go with me), which means it may go out as a pink flamingo or howler monkey. We hope the surprise of each day keeps you on your toes, expectant and thrilled for what’s to come.
Our March has begun with a campus full of creatives in residence between the award-winning Wisconsin writers visiting for the Winter Writers Reading Series and our Scherbarth residents. Each resident provides a program for the benefit of the community—above is our sunlit Art Cafe with a group of poets talking about prose poetry with Susan Huebner this week. And on Tuesday March 5 at 6pm Nina Kissinger will be hosting a table read & workshop of her play-in-progress at the Lind Pavilion—please join us!
We’re hard at work on Youth Program for summer right now—building classes, talking with teacher-artists, and hiring the next member of our team. Stay tuned and if you can’t wait, check out our intergenerational Let’s Make a Mural workshop, where you can make a lasting impact with art that will light up the Hot Shop!
With March our regular workshop season begins, and workshops are selling out quickly. Be sure to register online or call the office to reserve your spot! We also have waitlists and are happy to add you. Before you know it May will arrive with the first of our retreats: Jewelry Boot Camp and the Mining Your Stories Writing Retreat. We know you have something to say and are holding space for you.
To spring and all its forms,
Christina Kubasta
Executive Director
