Little Altars, Everywhere
Memory and personal mythology can transform mundane ordinary objects into powerful talismans. When we arrange them with focused intention into assemblages, that energy can be magnified. Our personal associations with the divine or the sacred fuse together with artmaking to create work that can be deeply personal and even transformative.
Lorraine will lead you through the process of creating a shrine assemblage — a little personal altar that celebrates the sacredness of everyday things. The class will explore archetypal themes of fairy tales and myths — of gods and goddesses — as well as how objects convey meaning. By working in a sculptural format that speaks to the idea of shrines, niches, reliquaries and altars, you will be encouraged to weave together your stories with meaning.
