Alphabets Inspired by Nature

We will begin by looking at example alphabets by other type designers, and then take to the outdoors to find inspiration. Once our exploring is done, we will analyze our objects with relation to what parts make up a letter. For example: Are there thicks and thins in your object? What does the vertical and/or horizontal look like? If your item is angular, how will that rule apply to a letterform like ‘O’? Make design decisions through a series of lettering exercises using the “parts” of objects to create a finished alphabet. Work at your own pace, and take home an 8×10 artwork.
