Portrait as Icon

Have you wondered how you might look as a Byzantine Icon? Transform yourself (or someone you love) into a highly stylized portrait in the Medieval style. In this session, we’ll work on a 16″ x 12″ watercolor board panel with fast-drying acrylic gouache for the underpainting, colored pencil for details and refinement, and . . . gold leaf for a luxurious background! Bring a large print of your photographic portrait, an idea for a symbolic left-hand gesture—consider common use signals, and formal sign language—and a significant object to be held in your right hand.
