Paint abstract pieces adventurously and intuitively in this three-day workshop! We’ll work on oil paper and wood panels to create with joy and abandon. I’ll show you all the basics as well as many of my favorite techniques. You’ll explore the layering process to create richly colored and textured pieces. You’ll also create quick and daring works on paper.
We’ll use a variety of tools to experiment with texture and layers. We’ll explore using lightweight papers to add collage elements that blend in and become part of the painting. We’ll look at composition, color, and mark making tools, and the interactive process of painting with oil and cold wax. We’ll cover preparing your panels, including with Venetian plaster for added texture. You’ll learn ways to present your pieces.
We’ll play with making bold marks, adding and subtracting elements as we go. We will cultivate a lively atmosphere, using this medium where there are no mistakes. Your can alter your pieces at any time. I will work with each participant individually as desired and provide playful prompts to get you started.
You will leave with some finished pieces and with work in progress. You’ll leave with knowledge and inspiration to keep working in this fascinating medium. Whether you’re new to the medium or more experienced, you’ll find something in this workshop to inspire you.

Many classes have materials fees in addition to the tuition. These are identified in the class listing and are usually paid with the tuition payment, however in some cases materials fees are paid directly to the instructor at class time (check the class listing).
While we recognize that life intrudes and plans change, in consideration of the time and energy instructors invest in preparing for classes, we must adhere to the following cancellation policies:
> Cancellations made 31 days before the published registration deadline date for any given workshop are eligible for a full refund less 25% of the workshop fee OR a gift certificate in the full amount of the workshop fee. The gift certificate can be applied to workshops or lodging through Dec. 31 of the following year and is transferable.
> Cancellations made 30 days or less than the published registration deadline date for any given workshop are not eligible for refunds. We encourage all students to purchase trip insurance.

> If Shake Rag Alley must cancel a class you will be notified immediately via email or phone and will receive a full refund.
> If a class does not meet a minimum number of students, it may be cancelled. A decision to cancel a class due to under enrollment will be made on the day following the published registration deadline.
