Description

In order to continue the crucial conversations that began during our 2020 NEA Big Read of Claudia Rankine’s award-winning “Citizen: An American Lyric,” Shake Rag Alley is hosting a monthly antiracism book club.

Join us via Zoom to discuss Homeland Elegies, by Ayad Akhtar.

Homeland Elegies captures a country in which debt has ruined countless lives, the gods of finance rule, immigrants live in fear, and unhealed wounds wreak havoc around the world. Pulitzer Prize-winning author Ayad Akhtar attempts to make sense of it all through the lens of a story about one family, from a heartland town in America to palatial suites in Central Europe to guerrilla lookouts in the mountains of Afghanistan, and spares no one — least of all himself — in the process.
