Collage Paper Party

June 2, 2023

Schedule: 9am-4pm Fri

Instructor: Nicole Austin

Registration Deadline: May 22

Description

Let’s get this collage paper party started! Go-to techniques to create bright, bold, luscious collage paper — PERFECT for art journals, mixed media collage, decoupage paper, and other projects. We’ll start with mark making using oil pastels and stamping found items into acrylic paint. I’ll show you tricks for using the right colors to create contrast and avoid muddy colors. We’ll use spray inks and acrylic paint stencils, rubbing plates and stamps to create resists. But we’re not done yet! We’ll also use the gelli plate to create textures and patterns! I’ll show you my favorite: the paint pen! We’ll focus on process and learn a ton of techniques but we’ll also have time to play with our collage paper in art journals!

Class size 12

Level Novice and above

Student Supply List
Basic kit: glue stick, scissors, and art journal of your choice (I recommend the Strathmore or Canson brand with mixed media weight paper). Optional: any items you like to work with (specific colors of paint, spray inks, stamps, collage paper, ephemera, stencils, etc.), but I will have plenty to share!

  • Tuition $150

I am a mixed media artist, designer, and instructor from San Jose, CA (currently residing in Tempe, AZ) with a BA in creative arts. I believe that everyone has a unique style and desire to create and that we are born curious and creative. Over the years, many of us are discouraged from following our creative urges, but I believe it is never too late to begin (or begin again!). I love to encourage my students to draw from their own experience when creating art and to have the courage to take chances. My art is messy, colorful, layered, and fun.

I have been drawn to the creative arts since I can remember. My first canvas was pretty much every surface in my grandma’s house: the walls, the books, underneath the marble coffee table in the dining room (she didn’t find out until YEARS later and it remains one of her treasured possessions!). I loved playing school and “art gallery” and my dream was to be an artist and teacher. I love the energy that my students bring to class; I love hearing their stories and guiding them through the fear and frustration and reflecting the joy they experience and cheering them on while they (re)discover their creative voice.
