Urban Sketching Explorations

Urban Sketching is about capturing time and place while connecting with others through the seemingly solitary act of sketching. In this workshop, we’ll explore the fundamentals of sketching on location from observation, then take things a step further—incorporating creative elements inspired by our wanderings. Experiment with prompts, create page backgrounds, and use found materials to see how adding texture, color, and other details can bring a new dimension to each piece. We will spread out across the Shake Rag Alley Campus, so comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing are recommended. We’ll wrap up with time to add finishing touches to our sketches and enjoy a relaxed “sketch throw-down”—a casual sharing session to celebrate what we’ve created and mingle with fellow sketchers.
