Needle Tatting ONLINE

Many of us have memories of a beloved grandmother or great aunt who would wile away the hours tatting beautiful lace with her shuttle. Little known to many aspiring tatters is that the lovely rings and chains formed with a shuttle can be duplicated using a tatting needle. You may have always wanted to try your hand at shuttle tatting, but felt a little intimidated. With needle tatting you can create the same delicate lace with ease.

In this interactive online course (times are central standard time), you will learn about the different sizes of tatting needles and when to use them along with appropriate thread or yarn. You will learn how to read three different types of patterns for the same item. Once we pick up our needle and thread, we will make a sample of both ring and thread and ring and chain. In addition, we will cover adding a new thread, split ring, and finishing. As time permits, we will start our first tatted piece. Modern tatting offers so much more than the delicate lace of the past. By using a heavier yarn, you can even make a purse. The world is wide open to whatever you imagination can dream up to tat. Student Supply List Tatting needle size 5 (available from Amazon or Handy Hands); #8 Perle cotton in a light to medium color; Size 20 tapestry needle and scissors. Class time will be held over Zoom with the instructor for live interaction and a moderated chat. Students should have a laptop/computer with live camera and microphone.
