Art Adventure | Layer by Layer: Creating Depth and Color with Encaustic

Dive into the possibilities of encaustic through transparent layering and optical color mixing. Using encaustic medium and transparent paints, build depth and vibrancy with sheer layers, nuanced fusing, and mark making—allowing colors and details to interact and shift when seen through the wax. We’ll begin with demonstrations on preparing panels, controlling transparency, and creating overlays of color. Practice layering techniques, from glazing to embedding marks and textures, while exploring how light filters through the surface to create depth and complexity. The focus will be on color relationships, optical blending, and interplay between layers. You will have experimental panels as well as finished that highlight personal approaches to layering. For artists of all levels—whether new to encaustic or experienced painters looking to push their work into new territory. Materials Fee includes: paints, shared materials, and consumables.
